History of Surajkund




Surajkund is a pond in 6 acres, in which the sunsets. Its texture is similar to the Greek amphitheater. Which was built by King Suryapala of Tomar dynasty? The reason for its creation was the worship of Suryadev and accumulation of water sources. Even after being close to Delhi, the place remained in oblivion for several days.

In 1987, Surajkund Mela was organized for the first time to promote Indian handicrafts art. In 2013, the craft fair was given the status of an international fair. Its 34th event will start from 1 February this year and will run till 16 February.

Surajkund fair is held every year during the spring from 1 February to 15 February in Faridabad, Haryana. This fair is a colorful traditional crafts festival of India organized by the Government of Haryana at Surajkund campus. The fair was first held in 1987. The specialty of this fair is that similar items made by handicrafts and artisans from all states of India can be seen and purchased at one place. It is the hallmark of Surajkund Handicrafts Fair Mati, which has a wonderful fusion of tradition, heritage and culture.


Surajkund fair is organized every year on a new theme and based on this, the fair is decorated. Folk music is also organized in this fair. Artists from all states perform their respective folk music. It can be said that if Indian art, culture and music are seen at one place, then that place is the fair of Surajkund. The entire atmosphere of the fair is musical and delightful. By Air: The Indira Gandhi International Airport of Delhi is the closest. If
You are driving from Delhi Airport, you should take 35 minutes, while Surajkund is 25 km away if you are coming from Palam Airport.

By Road: Surajkund is well connected by road from Gurgaon, Delhi and
Faridabad (Mathura Road). You can choose taxi or other public vehicle. Which is available easily.

By Train: Delhi / Faridabad / Nizamuddin is the nearest railway
Junction. Once you reach here, you can travel to Surajkund via CAB / BUS / AUTO Rickshaw as per your convenience.

Availability: Tickets for Surajkund International Crafts Fair are easily available on all major online booking platforms and even at the venue.

Exemptions: Every year the committee introduces new exemption options to its visitors, however, these are some standard exemptions introduced by the Haryana government.

Notice: 50% discount on admission ticket amount for school and college students with valid ID card.
50% discount on entry ticket amount for senior citizens, differently abled and soldiers.

Travel: The fair has ample parking space for tourist vehicles. Golf carts and e-rickshaws are also available on request which will take you around the festival and parking area. Facilities such as e-toilets and clean drinking water filters for men and women are installed at regular intervals within the Meela Maidan.
